Apple pencil: select part of drawing, copy, paste into another drawing?

I am using an iPad app with Apple Pencil 2 to make drawings. The app uses the same user interface for drawing as the Notes app. I can use (what I will call, in the absence of any user documentation that I can find) the select tool to select part of a drawing. Then, I have been sometimes successful in bringing forth a pop-up that provides edit commands including "Copy," but I haven't learned how to consistently do that. Then in another drawing -- another Note, say -- I was once successful in bringing forth a pop-up that provided a Paste command, but I likewise don't know how to do that other than by thrashing around and hoping to get lucky.

UPDATE:

I just spent 38 minutes on the phone with two apple support specialists to find out that to copy the selected portion, double-tap (very quick, no delay between taps!) the selection with the pencil. To paste, single-tap in the target area with a finger.

Happy to have the solution, but still incredulous at the lack of user documentation.

I can use Lasso. Then: I have been sometimes successful in bringing forth a pop-up that

provides edit commands including "Copy," but I haven't learned how to

consistently do that. Then in another drawing -- another Note, say -- I

was once successful in bringing forth a pop-up that provided a Paste

command, but I likewise don't know how to do that other than by thrashing around and hoping to get lucky.

Having selected with the Lasso tool, what exactly do I do to bring up the Copy or Paste command pop-up?
