M1 MacBook Air problem with HDMI
When I connect Macbook Air M1 to external LCD Monitor through USB-C hub it crashes (panic error) and restarts.
It happens 1 or 2 times a day...
It's difficult to work this way...
Anyone can help?
Thank
Nicola

The new adaptor doesn't solve the problem.
I have tried every possible solution. I need to work without problems...
I don't understand why Apple doesn't fix this problem.
A lot of people has the same problem here. In my office we are 5 workers with the same problem now.
We all are also so close to return the computers back.
Is it possible that you can hook up your M1 Air directly to your external Display? If you can and monitor the performance for a couple of days then you will be able to tell whether the issue is with the USB-C Hub or with the MacBook Air. My guess is that the issue is with the compatibility of the Hub with the M1 MacBook Air. I understand that you may not have an adapter for USB-C to HDMI and this may not be possible for you at present. If your external display has a UBC-Port then you can connect USB-C to USB-C as well.

I have same problem like you like 50 post's author on Apple Community. Why does not Apple give a new update for Macbook Air M1 ? Is it related hardware or BigSur. I don't know but Apple Developers should say something about this issue.
Hi Axel, thank for your helpful answer. I've just ordered an adapter for USB.C to HDMI, to try this solution: I'll let you know soon if it works. I hope Apple will fix this problem, because a lot of my friends have the same problem with hub and external display. (I specify that I bought and tried three different hub, also from apple store, but all hubs had the same problem...). Thank you again.
I'm having the same issue after I disconnect my computer from the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter. It doesn't seem to matter what program I'm in after disconnecting, the computer will freeze and I have to do a hard reboot.
@nicklaw2810,
did the new adapter solved your issue finally? I do experience the same issue with my new Mac air M1 connecting to HP external display via Satechi multi port (hdmi) and the display crashes all the time. not sure what I can do but I’m so close to return the computer back. So would be keen to hear your reply.
thanks Lukasz
I agree you too. We don't use hub which is an uncertified products of unknown brands. I want to hear about this issue from Apple, ok we know the problem and trying to solve this issue as soon as possible.
Thanks for reply.
I'm heartbroken! I waited for the new MacOs Big Sur 11.3 version but the problem has not been fixed!! It this normal??
I have no words... Apple is not doing what has to be done. It's not possible for me to work this way.
Tomorrow I'm going to return back the M1 Mac. I'm coming back to pc.
Next week other 4 workers with the same problem will return back their Mac.
It seems to have settled down. I bought an Anker adapter https://smile.amazon.com/Anker-Upgraded-Delivery-Pixelbook-A83460A2/dp/B07ZVKTP53/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2EOQCZ68KE7FN&dchild=1&keywords=usb+c+hub&qid=1620156374&sprefix=usb%2Caps%2C258&sr=8-4
and the latest update seems to have fixed it. At least it hasn't frozen lately. I did have problems downloading the update, but I think that was a wifi problem. Good luck!
Hi there, I have the (pre M1) Mac mini 2018, connected to BenQ Monitor via HDMI direct.
I have just upgraded the OS to Big Sur last week (3-7 May 2021). Then after a few days "no signal detected" on my monitor. I have had my Mini for coming up for nearly two years. So I would say (hopefully not wear & tear) Big Sur is the problem. I tend to leave my Mini on all the time, it's when it goes into sleep mode that I think the problem occurs, so I tend to shutdown my Mac at end of use now (still testing). But resetting the PRAM is a work around (Hold down Command+ALT+P+R keys when restarting/booting up Mac. Hope this info is useful.
Just a FYI regarding the M1 Macs and SMC and PRAM resets:
There is no SMC available on Apple’s new M1 Macs!
The M1 Apple Silicon is a similar chip to the ones the company designs for iPhones and iPads. Neither of them support manual SMC or NVRAM resets.

You are welcome. Let us know how you make out with the new adapter. Thanks.

Hi Axel,
the new adapter doesn't solve the problem... Same issue as using a Hub
I did buy an Aukey hub but still had the problem. Right now, knock on wood, the apple dongle works ok.
