It seems you have activated silent mode. Check the side of your iPhone (specifically the left) and you will see a notch that has an orange line on it. That notch is the switch for Silent mode or Rotation Lock, depending on your settings. Push the switch towards the orange line until you hear a click. If the Ringer turns back on, you’ve turned off Silent mode.
The alternative method is in control center, if your settings are set up like that. Control center can be accessed by swiping down from your battery icon on iPhone X and up (excluding the iPhone SE), and swiping up from the bottom of the screen on iPhone 8 and lower, and the SE.
