Thanks for following up, Todger66,

With the additional information you have provided, the next recommendation is to check out the steps below from If the screen isn’t working on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support:

"If your screen is too sensitive or responds intermittently to touch

  1. Restart your device.
  2. Make sure your screen is clean and free of any debris or water.
  3. Disconnect any Lightning or USB-C accessories. If your screen works after removing an accessory, try using a different outlet, cable, or charger.
  4. Remove any cases or screen protectors.

If part of your screen doesn't respond, responds intermittently, or responds even when it's not touched, contact Apple Support for your iPhone or iPad."

Have a great day!

Hi, Todger66,

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you are having trouble with the on-screen keyboard of your iPhone X. You've come to the right place for help.

If this issue occurs in a specific app alone, we suggest using the steps outlined in If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support.

If it's occurring in more than one app, don't hesitate to respond back providing the following information:

  1. Does it occur in portrait, landscape, or both?
  2. Does this area of the display have trouble when not using the on-screen keyboard?
  3. Have you tried using a Bluetooth keyboard with your iPhone? If so, does the D work on that keyboard?
  4. What is the current iOS version installed on your iPhone? Example: iOS 14.4.1. You can get this under Settings > General > About > Version.

Best.

Hi Lindsay.

  1. Does it occur in portrait, landscape, or both?

>> Slightly Different in either aspect but its the same general area. In portrait the D, R and X don't work but in landscape the top line QWERTY eg doesn't work.

  1. Does this area of the display have trouble when not using the on-screen keyboard?

>> I think so. I tried to double tap this area in maps and that area doesn't respond.

  1. Have you tried using a Bluetooth keyboard with your iPhone? If so, does the D work on that keyboard?

>>I don't have a BT keyboard but I will get one.

  1. What is the current iOS version installed on your iPhone? Example: iOS 14.4.1. You can get this under Settings > General > About > Version.

>>Yep latest one 14.4.1

Thanks so much. I am assuming there is a problem with the screen. Phone is in immaculate condition, not been dropped. It's kept in a ladies case that has a zipper on it for credit cards etc so its well protected.

Cheers.
