Why can't FaceTime recognize and utilize two audio inputs from an external audio interface like GarageBand does?

Why doesn't FaceTime recognize and utilize two audio inputs from and external audio interface like Garage Band is able to?

Facetime on Mac saying "Call Failed" I have a 2021 Mac M1 Max running Mac OS Ventura 13.0.1 (22A400). Every time I try and use Facetime in any capacity (Video Facetime, Audio Facetime, Wifi connected phone call) the call will come through on my Mac - and upon answering - say "Call Failed". I have tried logging in and out, restarting, force quitting, etc... My wifi is Gig up / down I currently run my mac through an audio interface for output to speakers, but no microphone (just use the built in). I have tried selecting a different speaker and running strictly through the Macbook pro speakers. My questions is - what's going on? None of this has been an issue in the past until updating to Ventura.
