sure, my tv is an old 2010 sony non smart tv, the appletv box by pass anything smart about the tv and treats it like it's just a monitor with speakers.

You can use any version

and you need to use a hdmi cord from the tv to the appletv bod not to your router

Should I get an older version of Apple TV for an older TV... ? or can I use any version..?
