My watch will not respond to the reset command
Is there an alternative method of reset?

Using the watch menu I followed the instructions in the manual to factory reset. I pressed the reset tab, waited, pressed a second time when the screen refreshed and waited 5 minutes. The phone and watch are in close proximity and charged 100%
Thank you. I performed the two button press which displays the Apple logo. That said, the watch then requested the passcode as it is off my wrist, which I enter, after which it still does not reset to factory settings. May I assume I’m missing a step?

What started the issue is that the watch face changed for some reason and I can’t change the face to any other selections

Here is another way;
To unpair and erase watch and remove Activation Lock.
On a computer, go to iCloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
Go to Find Iphone.
Select All Devices, then click your Apple Watch.
Click Erase Apple Watch.
Select Next until the device is erased.
Click the remove button next to your Apple Watch.
