Stop video autoplay in Safari Reader Mode

Safari (v 14.0.3, Big Sur) blocks video autoplay at websites until I click the Reader View icon. Then the video starts and I'm unable to stop it. Any suggestions?

Please try changing customization options for websites.

Click Safari in the Safari menu in the Safari menu bar and choose "Allow All Auto-Play".

Move mouse pointer to Auto-Play, click inside the dropdown box and choose "Stop Media with Sound ".

If it is successful, follow the guide in the link posted below for all other sites

After installing an Update or Upgrade, starting up in SafeMode is not a bad idea.

Is there any adware installed?

Test it.

Remove adware if installed on your Mac..

Run the latest release of Malwarebytes for Mac to remove malware/adware, if installed on your Mac.

For instructions: Install Malwarebytes for Mac v4      Uninstall Malwarebytes for Mac

       Click the “FREE DOWNLOAD” button.

Click the “Scan ” button. Once done, quit Malwarebytes for Mac.

Restart the computer and relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.

       Scan for Malware again.

Thanks, Dominic23. My settings were already "Never Auto-Play," but I pulled up the site again to try. It apparently has a rotation of ads, some of them videos. Now I'm getting no video but also a change in the ads. I'll keep looking. I had hoped I'd be able to post the URL of an offending site, but if they all have ad rotations, members of the Apple Community might see something different.

Once again, thanks. I have Malwarebytes 4.74 installed and scanned but it found no offenders. I followed your instructions with restart, rescan, Safari shift-open. The site is not running the video ad, so my check on that was not helpful. I guess I'll just have to keep looking. Thanks for the diagnostic tip, though. I'm glad to post this; maybe it has been notice by other users.
