message notification count still doesn't update

After more than a year since I first reported this, I'm amazed to see that the Message count on the newest Apple Watch with all the newest OS upgrades to both the watch and my new iPhone still DOES NOT UPDATE. Again this would be a very useful feature -- to be able to glance at my watch and see if I have unread messages, and if so, how many. And yet this obvious BUG still has not been addressed by development. The number on the watch face is ALWAYS WRONG! Does anyone at Apple care...?
