I am trying to sync ipod classic to itunes but when i put in usb the ipod logo does not show up on itunes in order to sync

Check for fluff in the docking port. Magnifying glass, torch, and a thin sliver of plastic. A bit of crud in the wrong place and it won't connect for data even if it charges.
I asked about your operating system. New Macs run Big Sur which uses separate apps for Music, TV, and Podcasts. iTunes is still available for Windows.

What version of what operating system is involved? My initial suspicion would be a faulty cable or fluff in the docking port.

no it works ok with ipod shuffle just not with classic. So annoying as I am trying to update it before changing computers.
Can you tell me if I am buying a new computer can I still download itunes onto it?
