My iphone now shoots h.265 video. I need to transcode it to Apple Pro Rez 422, for editing with Final Cut Pro 7. I used to use mpeg streamclip, but it doesn't read h.265. What is a good app to use? Free would be good, or at least a free trial.

You’ll have to use Big Sur. Download the clips to your computer. Select them. Right click and in Services select Envidé selected files. There’s an option for ProRes in the dialog that comes up.

Sorry I didn't provide all that info. I'm shooting video on my iphone 11. I then transfer it onto my laptop which is running OS 11.2.2 (Big Sur). Then I move the raw footage an external drive, then from the drive onto my Mac desktop (OS 10.6.8) where I edit. (The only thing I use that computer for is editing.). So, until today my phone was shooting H.264 which I then used mpeg StreamClip to transcode on my desktop (OS 10.6.8).
I am happy to do the transcoding either on my OS 11.2.2 or on the 10.6.8.

Thanks. I'm trying that on one file right now. I did not click "Preserve Transparency." Should I click on that? Also, it says that it's 422 uncompressed. Is that the same as regular 422? I did not see options for different 422 codecs.

PS - For human interest: I'm still editing in FCP 7 because I like it. Also, I'm 67 years old and started editing on FILM, yes FILM, in the 1970s. If I don't have to learn a new program that would be great!

I only went on X for a few minutes. Seemed like i-movie on steroids. I didn't get it. Should I learn it? Can it do everything that FCP7 can do? (PS - I was just young enough not to edit on an upright Moviola; started on a Moviola flatbed as an assistant editor at Universal Studios.)
If you don't mind my saying, I suggest you take a look at some of the videos of the izzyvideo course, at your leisure.
It will give you a nice overview of how the application works. If after getting this introduction (by an excellent teacher, I should say), you feel it's not your cup of tea, fine. You may be surprised, though.
What OS are you using? Only Mojave or later supper HEVC.

This is iPhone video? There’s no transparency.
ProRes 422 is the standard PR. If you checked transparency you’d get ProRes 4444.
I started editing film on a Moviola and Steenbeck in the 60s. FCPX is easy.
It's very different from FCP7. FCP can do more.
