I added both of my kids to a family plan. They were with their Apple IDs all of their music and playlists came over originally. As of today, all of their music and playlists are gone.

Why did they have to renew individual plans to get the music back? The ease of downloading music is great but you spend money and don't get to keep the music. Some racket you have going on here. I miss Napster.

First, this is a user-to-user forum. You are not talking to Apple here.

Second, they should not have had to renew individual plans to get the music back. If you followed:

Get an Apple Music family subscription - Apple Support

then as the footnote in the 'First, set up Family Sharing' section says, "If someone in the family group already has an individual or student subscription to Apple Music, renewal of that subscription is automatically canceled when they join the family group." and they should have kept their music libraries and playlists.
