I took a pic with my iPhone 12 Pro. It went to my iMac. My iMac won't allow editing -- why?

When you download photos or anything else to any computer it lands somewhere in the computer, to an application. You may be downloading them to a Finder window, Finder is an applications. Your Mac came pre-installed with the Photos application located where all of your apps are located in the Applications folder. You even have icon of it in the Dock that looks like
The is the application that Apple uses for storing, managing, editing and yes printing photos. To learn how to use it please refer to https://support.apple.com/guide/photos/welcome/mac

You have not provided much in the way of useful information. We need to know which app you are move the iPhone's photos to on the iMac. If the photos go from the iPhone to the Photo's app on the iMac they are most certainly editable.
All my devices share pictures taken with my iPhone. Previous iPhone 7 pictures worked on my iMac and MacBook Air just fine. I’m wondering if iPhone12Pro has an issue.
Specifically, trying to edit the pic on the computer doesn’t work at all. Can’t even print the pic off the computer.
I don't understand your question as to what App am I using?? I never pulled or secured an App from the App Store. What my computer came with is what I am using. I take a picture with my iPhone 12 Pro. The picture goes directly to both computers (I do have iCloud sharing but have had that all along). All roads lead back to the new iPhone 12 Pro. One extra bit of info is that any picture taken and downloaded from my Nikon camera -- no issue -- pictures edit and print just fine. It's something else that's goofy.
Harvey,
Please re-read my first post and answer the question of when you import a photo onto your iMac which iMac app do the photos reside in?
