Hello demetrios17,

Unfortunately you cannot backup your mac on to your iCloud account but you can synchronize the data. Learn how to do that by checking this article: https://support.apple.com/en-al/HT208682.

What apple recommend and what I would advise you to do is to backup your mac on Time Machine. All you need to do that is to have an empty and big enough external hard drivez You can learn about it by checking this article : https://support.apple.com/en-al/HT201250.

Good luck!

On a Mac you have the much better backup option "Time Machine". With a large Time Machine drive connected, you can have a long backup history. The iPhone and iPad iCloud backups are limited and you cannot to much older backups.

If you enable iCloud Drive on your Mac, you are having a kind of off-site copy of all your documents and data you are keeping on iCloud Drive. It is a very useful additional safety to have a current off-site copy of all important documents and data, but what is missing is the ability to revert to a previous state, so it is not a full backup like Time Machine.

Nevertheless, if your Mac gets damaged or stolen, you can recover all documents and data you have been syncing with iCloud from iCloud. But iCloud cannot help you to recover from user errors. If you accidentally delete important items or mess them up, you cannot recover the original version, only for some applications that support versioning.
