Reinstalling MacOS

I was given my friend's old 2011 mac because he was getting rid of it. He wiped the drive before giving it to me and now when I try to reinstall MacOS through the launcher (options-command-R on startup) and it says it's missing required components. Is there something I can do to get this working?

Reinstall Mac I am preparing an older Mac Pro (with an Intel processor) for donation to a school.
