Clearing history will not delete your Favourites/Bookmarks.

You may find this article to be helpful in understanding some of the frequent difficulties encountered by users new to iPadOS Safari - along with some of Safari’s more esoteric features and quirks:

Insofar as possible, I hope to have distilled most of the frequent problems reported here - and documented procedures, strategies [and where needed] some useful workarounds.

Hmmm, I just tested that on my iPad Pro: cleared all history and website data on it; launched Safari, hit the bookmark sign in upper left and not only are all the bookmarks there, but all of my tabs are still showing in the tab bar:

I was signed out of ASC, but I expect that and will need to sign into all the sites, but the bookmarks are there.

Babowa, are you on the same level of iPadOS that I am? This level is buggy. For example, after I installed it if gmail truncates a message and I click on the view entire message, the screen blinks an nothing happens. It is supposed to open a tab in safari with the entire email. Also, the HP support is on a web chat tool. There is a button on it to print the chat. Before it work fine, now I get the blink and nothing there too.

it also propagated the delete to my other iPad.

update. I found them. It positioned the displayed list at the bottom folder of a long sting of nested folders. I did loose the tabs. The strange thing is that it did the same on my other iPad.
