Why would I want to receive messages to and reply my apple id for iMessage?
And would the messages show up on my call or message logs; or on my Verizon bill?

To turn Messages off, go to Settings/Messages, and slide the iMessage switch off. Then tap Send & Receive and sign out of Messages.
Messages uses WiFi unless you are sending a text message to a non-Apple device.
