Does everyone in the group message need to be an iPhone user?

I have a group text message for my fellow volunteers in our organization so that we can communicate quickly as needed. Not everyone has an iPhone, however. Can I still add and remove contacts, as needed, from the group text if they are not all iPhone users?

iPhone 12, iOS 14

People who use both iMessage (blue) and SMS (green) can both participate in group messages. However, if anyone in the group is using SMS, you will no longer be able to add or remove people or rename the group.

Note that not all iPhone users use iMessage. Some do not. So, the issue isn't iPhone vs non-iPhone. It's strictly iMessage vs SMS. /
