White Wristband Discolored—How does it happen?

My white wristband has been discoloring to a blue color. Does anyone know how this happens?

I’ve read that you can clean it with warm water and a wash cloth and dry it (which hasn’t helped me, by the way).

How do I prevent the discoloration from happening in the first place? Has anyone else had this problem?
