upgrading the processor

I'm not completely aware of the way MacBooks are built, so I might be wrong, but can you replace an intel core processor with the new M1 chip? I know you would have to replace certain parts as well, it would be pricey to get the repair done, and Apple probably wouldn't do the service because it would be silly of them to give better MacBooks for less money, but could It be done?
