Mac CPU Temperature

If you're seeing this Apple and to all other users out there will you just add a small update within the Activity Monitor App to tell all users what the temperature of the CPU is so we are able to take appropriate measures to cool down our CPU to the correct idle temperature.

Thanks

Personally, I use iStat Menus. But it’s for curiosity only, there’s no need to manage it manually since macOS takes care of it. It will speed up the fans, throttle back the processors, and ultimately power off the Mac if necessary to prevent damage. As a user, all you need to do is Keep your Mac notebook within acceptable operating temperatures, and don’t block the vent openings.

Like @neuroanatomist mentions you don't need to worry about the system temperature since the hardware will take care of keeping the Mac within normal operating temperatures. If the cooling system is unable to keep the temperatures within normal operating range then the CPU speed will become temporarily throttled to protect the system.

If your Mac is running hotter than you think it should, then it is most likely due to some software you have installed. Uninstall anti-virus apps, cleaning apps, or third party security software by following the developer's instructions as these types of apps are not needed on a Mac and usually causes more problems than it solves plus it impacts system performance. If you want us to evaluate the software installed on your Mac to look for potential causes, then run EtreCheck and post the report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper. Otherwise just follow the information in the link @neuroanatomist provided.

I personally like to use Macs Fan Control to monitor system temperatures and fan speed when troubleshooting systems.

Your Mac can run all day every day at 60 degrees C without any bad effects whatsoever.

Your Mac reads the actual temperatures from about a dozen different sensors inside chips and inside the enclosure and adjusts the fan speeds multiple times a second. If more cooling is needed, the fans will speed up.

If this fan-speed-update process stops, the fans fail-safe at MAXIMUM speed, which is unmistakably loud. in addition, the processor temperature sensor will cause an uncontrolled power down if the temperature ever approaches 100 degrees C, regardless of what the fans are doing.

There is no way you can do better that the nearly ten times a second your Mac adjusts its own fan speeds. Stop worrying about it. This is a job for a computer.
