Anyone else having a cracked screen problem on a 2020 MacBook Pro? My MacBook is just 3 months old and apparently this problem is not covered by the guarantee, or so I’ve been told by John Lewis! Any advice? my old MacBook, which Apple described as ‘vintage’, had the same care and wear before it needed replacing.

Sounds like you need to have Apple replace the display. Note that if you’d bought AppleCare, the damage would be fixed for $99. Unfortunately, without AppleCare the repair will cost several hundred dollars.
Damage is not covered by a standard warranty. If you bought a new car and a rock smashed the windshield, is that the car manufacturer’s fault? The display is a single part, it’s not possible to just replace the glass panel. So yes, it’s expensive.
Thank you, the device was bought in the U.K. but not in an Apple Store and I do not have AppleCare. Seeing past comments I do wonder whether Apple is saving costs by using less sturdy materials as I am not aware of any use that would cause a crack to the screen by me, the only user in a household of one! I was quoted £600 for a screen replacement which seems an outrageous charge for a device supposedly under guarantee.
