Applecare + Loss & Theft

Hi,


From the UK but currently living in Spain & recently purchased a new iPhone and want to purchase AppleCare + L&T here but only giving me the option to purchase care plan from the UK.


Is this solely due to my iTunes account still in based in the UK?


Also with the UK no longer in the EU, will this effect any possible claims here?

So it took some digging around to actually find an article, but I finally found it. For clarification and to finally end this post without a call to Apple Support File a claim if you have AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss coverage - Apple Support


"AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss is available only for iPhone in the United States and Japan."

Note this (lawyer speak) paragraph which gives Apple an opportunity to deny warranty service:


Apple may restrict Hardware Service and ADH Services to the country where the Covered Equipment was originally purchased.

note this paragraph re. the theft and loss:


AppleCare+ with Theft & Loss is an optional device protection program that provides combined benefits under AppleCare+ and a Theft & Loss insurance policy. Theft and loss insurance coverage is underwritten by New Hampshire Insurance Company (NAIC# 23841; Principal Address 175 Water Street, 18th Floor, New York, NY 10038; Phone (212) 770-7000) and is sold by AppleCare Service Company, Inc. (in California d/b/a Brogdan Insurance Services Lic#OL00763; Iowa License #26) and is sold in NY by Apple Inc. (License #926146). Theft and loss insurance coverage is provided under a group policy issued to AppleCare Service Company, Inc. in all states, except for New York where the policy is issued to Apple Inc. Coverage is subject to certain terms, conditions, and limitations. Theft and Loss can be purchased separately. Please refer to the certificate of coverage for your state for complete details, which can be found at www.aigtheftandloss.com/coveragedocs.


So, the warranty may or may not be restricted to country of purchase and the theft & loss is an insurance contract which appears to be only available in the US and Japan.


I would try to do a store chat when purchasing the item. Directly ask about the Applecare + and make sure you screenshot/save the entire chat including date/time/rep's name. If they say it is covered, keep a copy of that as proof.

Could you please post a link to an Apple document which does state that theft + loss is only available in the US; I could not find one. I am familiar with the AIG map of coverage for the US, but that does not prevent Apple from partnering with an insurance licensed in the EU (or anywhere else) from offering it.


That is why I suggested that the OP contact Apple - best to check with them concerning legal questions.

Don't know who you talked to at Apple but they are incorrect. If you buy AppleCare + in an EU member country that is good in any other member country as Apple treats the EU as one entity. If you are in Moscow and have hardware damage you have two issues, your AppleCare + will not be valid and they will not work on your iPhone purchased in Italy as the phones are different.

I cannot find anything specifically on Apple’s site that mentions were it is available, but Wikipedia says loss and theft is only available in the USA and Japan. MacRumors says the same thing -> https://www.macrumors.com/guide/applecare/


AppleCare+ coverage varies slightly depending on your territory. For example, AppleCare+ with theft and loss coverage is unavailable outside of the United States and Japan. Before purchasing AppleCare+, you should look into the exact terms of coverage in your country.“
