What happened to iTunes Plus?

iTunes Plus used to show on the store, but I see no reference anywhere.

I have about 1K songs that I would like to convert from "Protected AAC audio file" to "Purchased AAC audio file" but I cannot find any option in iTunes or the iTunes store to do this.

I'd happily pay the $.30 per song iTunes plus cost to allow this.

Necrotica,

"iTunes Plus" was the brand name for the unprotected AAC/256 tracks that Apple started selling around 2009. Now , all the song downloads from the iTunes Store are unprotected AAC/256, but they have ceased using the name iTunes Plus.

The program where you could upgrade tracks for 30 cents each ended in 2012.

Necrotica,

Well the good news is that they can still play, as long you still have the account/password under which they were purchased.

To upgrade to non-DRM versions, there was a method to do so by the use of iTunes Match, basically by deleting the DRM copy and downloading the matched copy. The Apple document explaining how to do so has been taken down, and TBH I do not know if it still works or not. I suggest to launch a specific question in the iTunes Match Forum.
