What is the maximum number of contacts in iCloud

I have trouble to manage (delete) more than 40,000 contacts in iCloud.

Having so many contacts wasn't intentional. I had iCloud enabled for contacts. I also had Microsoft Outlook app sync contacts to my iPhone. Unfortunately it sync'd a corporate contact list. Now I want to get rid of it. I was able to disable iCloud for contacts and deleted the contacts on my iPhone. But iCloud still has all the contacts that I want to get rid off. Using the webbrowser login to iCloud fails every time. Also using the Mac contacts client cannot handle it. Takes a long time to sync and then crashes, even when done in batches. Any ideas?

The errors:

Server Error
Cannot delete contacts

It took a very long time to see the list of contacts and then scroll through the list of contacts. It was a slow process to select contacts to delete.

The browsers I tried:

Safari on MacAir
Chrome on MacAir

I also tried to use Contacts app on MacAir by enable sync to iCloud. Same kind of challenges.

I ended up using Safari and delete 500 - 1000 contacts each time. Took about 2-5min each. About 50 - 100 time performing this delete. Now the iCloud contacts are all removed.

Looks like you are having some trouble with getting your contacts to load. We are happy to help! The limit for contacts in iCloud is currently 50,000: Limits for iCloud Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Bookmarks, and Maps. Have you tried loading these contacts in another browser or with another device? Also do you get any specific error code when trying to open those contacts in iCloud or when opening the app on your devices?
