If you are on a public Wi-Fi Network then obviously you are not the administrator and therefore you cannot change its password. If you are on a public Wi-Fi Network for a few hours a day then I wouldn't worry about it. You have an iPhone and it is nearly impossible to hack it. You stated that you have unlimited data. If you have usable cellular data connection then just use it if you are uncomfortable using the public network.
