I get unpair error AND I get error saying my watch is already paired with another phone. Now what?

My watch which has been working great for over a year now all of a sudden stopped receiving texts and emails, plus I could no longer use it to ping my phone when I replaced it. Sure enough, I had the red dot indicating that it was no longer communicating with my iPhone. So I tried to unpair and re-pair it. When I went to unpair it, I got an unpair error multiple times. I then tried to re-pair it with my phone and it said that it is paired with another phone and cannot pair it. Now what?
