Converting m4a files to mp3 in Apple Music
I followed the instructions in Apple Support, but the "Create MP3 Version" option is greyed out in the dropdown menu. Is anyone else having this problem or have a solution?

Did you select the album?
You do so by holding the Command key and clicking on the albums you want to be selected.
Otherwise, apple music doesn't know what you're doing. :-/
I hope this helps. :-)

Well, I feel pretty dumb! I didn't realize that CMD + click was required vs a simple click. Is that a new thing?
Thank you for that very simple solution!
HB,
Format conversion only works on tracks that are local (not in the cloud) and are unprotected. Because of the latter, it will work on purchased tracks, but does not work on Apple Music subscription tracks.
It's an audio file someone emailed me, and is on my local drive. I sent it to a coworker and they were able to convert it on their iMac using Apple Music, but my "Create MP3 Version" is still greyed out. Doesn't make sense why it would work for them and not on my machine.
HB,
That is indeed strange. It would be good to know if the conversion issue on your computer is only on this one particular file, or is grayed out for all files. In any case, ask your co-worker (who was able to convert) to send you the MP3.
Please don't feel bad. :-(
It's not your fault! Apple has this weird thing about selecting items where you have to use the multiple select key combos to select an album.
If you do the same thing with shift, it will select all the albums in between the two that you've clicked. ;-)
But anyway, I'm glad I could help! Have a good afternoon. :-)
