You can update Fire TV apps manually (per app) or automatically (all).

Manual:

Fire TV: Home﹥Your Apps & Games﹥(optionally) See All﹥[highlight app]﹥≡ (on remote)﹥More Info (& click on remote)﹥If an update is available, a new option will appear for that. Otherwise no update notification.

Automatic:

Fire TV: Home﹥Settings﹥Applications﹥Appstore﹥Automatic Updates﹥On
