How to upgrade from 10.10 to 10.11

I have an old but reliable and perfectly functional iMac 21.5 mid 2011, I was very happy so far using OSX 10.10, but now Chrome and other apps are requesting 10.11 minimum. I cannot find straight forward instructions to get it on my search. Please help....

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and click on El Capitan or High Sierra.
