Enter/Return Key Sends Text Message on iPad

I understand that if you hit Option + Enter/Return on an iPad the cursor moves to a new line whereas hitting the Enter/Return key by itself sends the message. But, this seems to be backwards to me. Having the Enter/Return key be the default way of sending messages is very frustrating, because I often accidentally hit the Enter/Return key when I’m going for the Shift key on my Bluetooth keyboard and my messages get sent midstream. It should work like the iPhone where the Enter/Return key moves the cursor to a new line. Then, when you are ready to send the message, hit Option + Enter, or some other combination of keys, which won’t accidentally send a message before you are ready to send it.

@WilcoxPD you are perfectly right 👏🏻!

For many users ( at least my family members, some work colleagues ) accustomed to typing text,

the [return] key is a typing text key, not at all a function key.

This strange mapping is causing errors on iPad and Mac too. Thus causing many messages sent one line at a time like

sausage slices.

( Now you all know the origin of all these sausage slices looking messages 😊).

On the other hand it is fully natural to think of [option]+[return] as a function key and an intelligent use would be to use

this key to perform "send the current message".
