apple watch apple id photo

No matter what I do, my apple id photo no longer shows on my apple watch under settings.. Instead, my name and a generic circular photo place holder with my First/Last initial displays. All other devices, even my windows 10 pc update with my apple id photo. I even followed someone's suggestion to choose option to have my contact card update for use everywhere, including apple ID -- but NO LUCK with that displaying on my apple watch 4. My apple id pic WAS SYNCED across all devices for a brief stint, but then I had to reset and haven't been able to get it to reappear on my watch -- whether I do a simple unpair/repair and restore from backup OR setting up as a new watch. Makes me feel something is not perfectly syncing and seamless between watch and phone, which I use for syncing workouts and other things. Apple phone support was equally stumped (but pleasant and tireless in their attempt to resolve the issue, as usual -- they are the best) PLEASE HELP! TY
