If iPad isn’t responding, do one of the following:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

Note: If iPad still doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen.

If your iPad does not want to boot, then it must be put into Recovery Mode.

If you use a PC, download the latest version of iTunes. It can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

If you are using Mac then you can just get started.

1) Turn off your iPad completely

2) Connect your Lightning Cable to your PC / Mac

3) Connect the cable to your iPad - the moment the cable is in your iPad, press and hold the Home Button until the device enters Recovery Mode. Recovery Mode is a black screen, with a computer and a cable icon.

On your computer. Now you can select Update or Restore. Update is trying to update your device.

Restore deletes EVERYTHING and restores your device to factory settings. In this case, try Update first.
