My own payment method

Can we not use our own payment method if in family sharing? Seems unfortunate to not be able to purchase items with your own credit card. Forced to use another adults payment method and if you don’t want to do that, the only solutions are to be ‘removed from the family’ or not share movies and apps with each other.
