HDR output on MacBook Air M1

I have a MacBook Air M1 2020.

According to this page, it does not support output of HDR signal on a DisplayPort connection.

However, when I hook up my MacBook to my Targus Thunderbolt 3 dock, which is in turn connected via DisplayPort to my HDR monitor, I see the option to enable HDR in System Settings.

Is Apple's documentation incorrect? Or is the dock somehow 'fooling' the monitor into think it's receiving an HDR signal?
