iMessage not working

I got the new iPhone 12 Pro yesterday with ATT and for some reason I cannot connect my phone number to iMessage, it only connects my iCloud email. I have tried turning off iMessage and FaceTime and turning off my iPhone and restarting it again but it still is not allowing me to connect iMessage to my phone number.
