the passcode does not work - it used to

I have now been locked out for 15 minutes. A passcode i used regularly does not work now.

I had not powered on the ipad mini for some time though

You will need to restore the iPad using a computer. The process will erase the device. If you have a back-up, you can restore your data later. Instructions here...

If you forgot the passcode on your iPad, or your iPad is disabled - Apple Support
