Setup Apple Cash card hangs after selecting "continue"

Apple Cash will turn on and add the Apple Cash card to my wallet. However, when I select the card and hit the "setup" button on the next screen, it just spins there with a white bar across the top portion of the screen! I have power cycled the phone (an iPhone 8 Plus) which is running iOS 14.4.2 multiple times. I have tried with WiFi and using only a cellular connection. I have turned off and back on the Apple Cash slider. Nothing seems to work. What am I missing? I'm not willing to reset to factory default settings, as that would be very disruptive to my other applications.

We'd also like to ask some additional questions to get a better understanding.


  • Are you able to use Safari to browse webpages without any issues, or do you notice any hang ups or lag there?
  • When did you first notice this behavior begin? Was it after any sort of change or update to the device?

To clarify, I am having an issue with setting up Apple Cash, not Apple Pay per se. I have other cards successfully setup in my Wallet. However, the Apple Cash Card that appears when you enable Apple Cash requires setup and that is where the problem begins. After selecting that card and pressing the "continue" button to start the setup, it just spins there forever.


To answer your questions, I have no problems with Safari or any other network enabled applications. And this problem began as soon as I tried setting up Apple Cash yesterday.
