Startup Disk

when looking in startup disk it displays 2 options. First why is this? Second what impact will that have on the performance of my MacBook Air? Third can I remove one?

Using an external SSD as my startup disk with my Mac mini I followed the instructions on "Use an external SSD as your startup disk with your iMac or Mac mini" - Quoting from the instructions: "After Migration, change your startup disk to set the external SSD as the default startup Disk. Open System Preferences, then choose Startup Disk. Select the external SSD, and click Restart." Well, after over 14 hours of trying everything together with my Apple tech, the external SSD never shows up in the Startup Disk panel. Only my internal HD. Any solutions and further instructions would be very welcome! Many thanks in advance (somewhere along the way, it says S.M.A.R.T. not supported)... Help! iMac 27 2019 so slow after installing Ventura it is unusable iMac 5k, 27-inch, 2019 (iMac19,1) 3.6 Ghz 8-Core Intel Core i9 Radeon Pro 580X 8 GB 8 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 3 TB HD Fusion Drive Ventura 13.1 After installing Ventura, the computer is so slow - click and wait a few minutes for an app to open, etc. I have run Utility Disk Repair more times than I can count, including in Safe Mode. I have reinstalled Ventura a second time, and still no improvement. Is wiping the HD and reinstalling my only option? I am doing a Time Machine backup right now that has been running for hours. I'm hoping it will complete. Thanks for any help you can provide. Let me know what other info you might need to help. Dan

What is seem in Startup Disk as Options ? Does one have a Bootable Drive attached? Impact - if one chooses to use the External Drive as the Startup Disk, each time the computer restarts it ( the Computer ) will attempt to start from the chosen disk. Third, premier on first two statements - remove the External Drive and verify in Startup Disk - should be showing one option - the Internal drive.
