Use of nano with earbuds
iPod nano charges and works with docking speaker setup. Trying for first time to use outdoors with earbuds but doesn’t turn on. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Hi ec1955x,
It sounds like you're having trouble getting your iPod nano to work with your earbuds. Are these Apple certified earbuds or from a third party? For the iPod Nano, consider the following links for troubleshooting steps:

If your iPod won't turn on or seems frozen
Once completed, test again and isolate by using another set of earbuds if the issue remains. Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities forum.
Have a great week!
Hi ec1955x,
This could be related to compatiblity, so a different pair of earbuds to test would help. If you review the compatibility for EarPods with 3.5mm Headphone Plug, it shows the iPod Nano 7th generation as the only one available. Is that the model you have?
Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities forum.
Take care.
Hey ec1955x,
That's correct. As mentioned in the iPod nano (Second Generation) - Technical Specifications, the unit originally came with the iPod nano Lanyard Headphones MA597G/A and while they're no longer sold via Apple stores or website, that would be the recommended hardware to use with the unit.
Enjoy your week!
Earbuds came with iPhone and work with iPhone. Tried measures for “frozen” iPod but not sure I would describe that here since iPod works normally with AC powered iPod docking speaker. When I plug in earbuds iPod doesn’t react at all... no activity on screen even though iPod indicates full charge when sitting in docking station.
I’ve gotten my money’s worth from this device— it’s a 2nd generation iPod nano.
Should also add that these are wired earbuds not wireless since older technology not for use with wireless buds
Hi ec1955x,
Yes, the earbuds being wired was an assumption here, but likely compatibility is the root cause of audio issues here. Glad we were able to isolate it.
Have a good one.
So the answer is trying other earbuds? Any specific suggestions re what earbuds to look for? Thanks a lot for trying to help by the way
Thanks
