Best computer for Logic Pro X

I am wondering what computer you musicians are using for your home studio running Logic Pro X. My mid-2012 MacBook Pro 13” non-retina recently died & I need to replace it.

My first impulse is to rush out & grab another mid-2012 MacBook Pro 13” non-retina, but I first wanna get a read on what others are using in 2021 for Logic Pro X.

Thanks for everyone’s insight & comments!😎

If you plan on using stock plugins and samples only, 1tb is overkill. Although, if you are utilizing external drives then you can outsource a lot of sample libraries including Logic’s library and many Kontakt libraries.

I have 1tb because I use a ton of plugs and many of them have to be associated with internal drive.

i7 is really what you want especially if you want to push the engine.

To your point, this machine will last a lo g time. I have had ZERO issues in the last 4/5 years

Eddie, Thanks. This is exactly the info I was lookin for. I always thought the mid-2012 13” was considered the best upgradeable workhorse, but after a little research online it seems the mid-2015 15” is now considered to be the most sought after.

I know SSD is a must. Is 512gb or 1tb the minimum? Is 256gb SSD enough to run Logic Pro sufficiently?

Also, I’ve heard it said to get the fastest processor possible. And that I should go for i7 over i5. But, it’s odd besides the M1 chip the new MBPs seem to be 10th Gen i5s.

The mid-2015 15” MBP w/integrated graphics was discontinued in July 2018 meaning it won’t be vintage until July 2023 & obsolete until 2025. So, I should get the most out of a mid-2015 15”, correct?

I think that’s what I’m goin for.

Yeah, mostly stock, however there were some sound plugins that were bundled with my interface & controller that I’ll probably use.

This is what I am tryin to get right with purchasin an older but better MBP.

Your mid-2014 MBP is now vintage(5 yrs outta production) & will be obsolete(7 yrs out) in a year.

So, besides there being no more hardware & repair support by that time, how will the lack of OS X updates & security updates affect your ability to continue using Logic Pro? Or, will you just buy a new or newer MBP at that time?😎
