Hi everyone. This is driving me crazy. I'm getting this error message above from sending mail to ANY email address (even my own) using Apple Mail on MacOS on my desktop.
But send the same thing via iOS or iPad and there is no problem.
I am reasonably tech competent - but this one has me completely frustrated.
Any hints would be helpful.

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having an issue with sending emails from your Mac. We're happy to help.
If you have any third-party anti-virus enabled, we'd recommend temporarily disabling it and testing sending the message out.
Should the issue continue, can you confirm which mail carrier you are attempting to send the message from, and if it occurs when testing with another using the Mail app or webmail?

Thanks for replying. After more investigation, it eventually turned out to be an ISP related issue which has now been fixed.
Error message "This message has been blocked for containing SPAM-like characteristics."
