What is your model remote? Identify your Apple TV remote - Apple Support


If you are setting up a new Apple TV box, then the remote would pair automatically.

If you are new to the Siri Remote then know that the touch surface at the top can be used to swipe with your thumb, but the center of the touch surface can be clicked a bit more deeply, to select/confirm a highlighted choice.
