Red spot on wrist from Apple Watch sensor

I’ve developed a red spot on my wrist where the sensor is on the watch. I’ve been doing a lot of workouts lately using Fitness+. I have had the watch a couple of years and didn’t notice the irritation until just lately. I’m concerned that the light emitted by the sensor is causing it. Have other users had this problem?
