Using Xbox controller with iPhone 7

I have an iPhone 7 with all new updates, and just bought the Xbox controller model 1708; just the controller not the console. The phone and controller connects via Bluetooth without any issues, however, I can get the controller to actually control the phone (actually game MCOC). Is there a setting I need to adjust, is there an app I need, do I have to be mirroring to a tv? I can’t figure out what I’m doing or not doing correctly. I admit, I have very little knowledge about this, actually, all I know is your suppose to be able to use controller with phone for games. I really appreciate any and all the help anymore could provide me!
