Watch slide up and down feature

At some point during most days, my watch will not allow the slide up to access options such as turning on or off notifications or to find my iPhone. It will also not allow me to slide down to see current notifications. The only solution has been to turn it off and turn it back on. Is there something I need to do to correct this problem?
