How to fix trackpad on MacBook Air?

My trackpad, including mouse, is not working. It won’t let me select and will randomly highlight, which is making it extremely hard to fix as the only thing I am able to do is reset the laptop using the power button. I’ve tried to fix the issue using the macOS recovery and even the terminal but with the trackpad not working it makes it impossible. If you have any other questions I’m happy to answer as I want to find a solution as soon as possible, thank you :)

Sounds like you most likely have a hardware issue of some sort which will need to be repaired. Have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider examine the laptop to provide you with a repair estimate. In the mean time try using an external keyboard and mouse.
