having trouble logging in itunes has an old email address, although apple has correct one. every time I try to sign in with new email and password it refuses and defaults back to old email

i tunes wont let me login to my account. it has an old defunct email address and despite having the correct one on apple, when I try it says wrong a/c or password the log in page keeps defaulting to defunct one

Do you have purchases in your library made under the old email address? Your old email address and password should work to authorize your computer for your old purchases. Did you change the email address associated with your Apple ID, or simply create a new ID. Ideally you would have taken the first approach, and then redownloaded all your past purchases using the new account details.

Thanks for your comments. All of my purchases were made with old address which is now defunct. It’s not that I can’t get into my playlists etc. When, a few years ago I bought I pad,I phone I noticed that only some of my library downloaded to other devices (I assume purchases from store) As I think tracks I uploaded from my cd collection have stayed on my computer. I don’t know how to get the whole list of songs and my first question, was, probably wrongly,a way forward to putting this to rights. As you will have picked up I am not too computer literate.
