Abnormal overheating while providing hotspot

Hi there,

I’m experiencing abnormal overheating on the iPhone 12 pro max I bought brand-new two months ago. I switched off 5g and my phone is updated at ios 14.4.1. The point is, I am smartworking in a place where I have to provide hotspot with my iPhone. After 50 mins of hotspot, the phone becomes hot to the point that I cannot use the flash anymore (even though I don’t use it while providing hotspot). I have experienced some overheating shut-downs of the phone, too. I had the opportunity to try another iPhone 12 pro max and it didn’t overheat at all while providing hotspot.

Besides, I’d like to underline that my iPhone won’t overheat while connected to the wi-fi, even when used for heavy applications or video calls.

Thanks in advance for the kind reply.

Best regards,

Andrea

Hello Andrea,

We understand you have some concerns with heat while using Personal Hotspot with the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Let's start by following the steps to backup and update to the latest iOS version 14.4.2 to test if this continues:

How to backup your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Next make sure to review Keeping iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch within acceptable operating temperatures

Check if you notice the same thing after removing any case used with the iPhone.
