Email deletion not transferring from ipad to iphone

when I read and then delete email from my iPad Pro, the deleted messages are still building up on my iphone and I have to manually delete them again. Any solutions?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Do you know if your email account is an IMAP or a POP account? See this posting: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8566320?answerId=33965478022#33965478022

Try synching Mail through iCloud. On both devices:

Open Settings
Tap you name
Tap iCloud
Turn on Mail

Ever since I updated both devices to the latest iOS, and despite the fact that both devices are linked on iCloud, when I delete emails on my iPad, they still show up on my iPhone. I haven't had this issue in years. Any idea what's going on?
